SS Wimmera Shipwreck
Sunk off northern New Zealand by a mine laid by the SMS Wolf, during 2008 we will continue researching
and locating the shipwreck of this passenger ship that went down in 1918. Due to it's probable location this may be difficult
to dive due to the tides and currents that are known from the area. This will be another 90-100 metre dive going by the
hydrographic chart.
As part of this project we'd like to hear from anybody who had relatives or has been told stories in the
past regarding passengers and crew on the Wimmera during its sinking and afterwards during the rescue of survivors.
September 2008 update:
A possible position has been found and plans are under way to have a look as soon as the weather settles down. This
first trip is a 'check out the location' trip and if it proves it is the Wimmera, a dive trip will soon follow.
