This book is the only available English translation of Captain Nerger's book that was
published in German in 1918 just before WW1 finished. Probably as a bit of propaganda
since the cruise itself was a great success and the German public needed a success story.
SMS Wolf was a very successful surface raider that left Germany and travelled to the
other side of the world to New Zealand and back again. Sinking ships and laying mines
as she went. Nerger's tactics were so good that many of the captains of the WW2 raiders
that set out a generation later, sort Nerger's help. Nerger died in 1947 in a Russian
POW camp.
