Description:
This is a 76 page booklet with many historical black and white photos about the whalers
at Campbell Island that came from the Marlborough Sounds. Names like Norton, Toms
and Heberley, all names mentioned frequently in other publications about whaling in
New Zealand.
Originally published in 1977 by Norm Judd and the Lands and Survey Department, this
is a very specific episode of New Zealand history that occurred in a very remote part
of New Zealand. Some alterations have been made as Norm has continued to research
Campbell Island history since its first publication.
The book itself is based on the verbal recollections of Joe Timms, who Norm interviewed
just before Joes death in 1977, just before the book itself was finished.
